Dwight Gooden (1984-1994) - Pitcher Report Abuse
Some might argue that Doc didn't play long enough to be the second best Met ever but those people don't remember the mid 80s. From '84-'86 Doc Gooden was the most electrifying athlete on the planet. His career was cut short due to drugs but when he came on the scene he was flat out unhittable and watching him perform was stunning.

Darryl Strawberry (1983-1990) - Right Field Report Abuse
Yet another Hall of Fame career derailed by drugs in the 80s. Straw is one of most popular Mets ever and even with his shortened career he stills holds the Mets' career record for Hits, RBI and Home Runs.

Mike Piazza (1998-2005) - Catcher Report Abuse
Sure, he only played half of his career with the Mets and his best statistical years came with the Dodgers but Piazza wa the team leader and face of the franchise for almost ten years. Add in the fact that he's the greatest hitter in Met's history and greatest hitting catcher of all time and you see why he's so high on the list.

Jerry Koosman (1967-1978) - Pitcher Report Abuse
Criminally underrated because he pitched on the same staff as Seaver and Nolan Ryan, people forget that in his day, Koosman was the go to guy and "big game" pitcher for the Mets - not Seaver or Ryan. He won over 200 games as was the workhorse for the winning teams of '69 and '73.
