He thoroughly and effectively fought racial segregation laws in the United States, moe particularly Jim Crow Laws. Among 32 cases he argued before the Court, he won 29 of them, including the groundbreaking case of Brown v. Board of Education. Justice Marshall dedicated his life to the upliftment of african-americans and became the first african-american justice of the US Supreme Court.

Despite being a fictional character, Finch is widely recognized as being one of the greatest lawyers of all time. Some real-life lawyers even attribute their career choices to the example set by the character.
