59 points - added 14 years ago by BrendaKaye - 1 comment
Comments:
Jim Jones is the founder of the People's Temple. Jim Jones teachings combined Christian Theology with Communist Philosophy. He originally seemed like a good minister, regularly championing for Civil rights and helping the poor. He eventually claimed he had a vision of a nuclear holocaust and had his congregation move to Guyana, South America. When a Congressman named Leo Ryan and a news crew went to Guyana to investigate abuse claims, Jones had them killed and then had his entire congregation of 914 commit mass suicide.

Comments:
L. Ron Hubbard is a former science fiction writer who comibined his love of science fiction and Sigmund Freud's psycho-analysis to create Scientology. According to Hubbard, our minds are filled with Engrams, traumatic memories that inhibit us, and that through a theraputic process called Auditing, you can remove the Engrams and heal all of our mental problems. The process of Auditing has been accused by Psychiatrists everywhere as a form of Brainwashing. If you look up the definition of a cult, esp. these two definitions, "A misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing. A person or thing that is popular or fashionable, especially among a particular section of society." It fits.

If you actually believe Jesus was a cult leader, would he not be number one not # 25. I mean this is a pretty sizeable cult, no?

I do not agree. Jesus was not the leader of a cult. He is the redeemer of mankind. He is the Son of God. he is God. Religions are man made.
