Jim Jones is the founder of the People's Temple. Jim Jones teachings combined Christian Theology with Communist Philosophy. He originally seemed like a good minister, regularly championing for Civil rights and helping the poor. He eventually claimed he had a vision of a nuclear holocaust and had his congregation move to Guyana, South America. When a Congressman named Leo Ryan and a news crew went to Guyana to investigate abuse claims, Jones had them killed and then had his entire congregation of 914 commit mass suicide.

L. Ron Hubbard is a former science fiction writer who comibined his love of science fiction and Sigmund Freud's psycho-analysis to create Scientology. According to Hubbard, our minds are filled with Engrams, traumatic memories that inhibit us, and that through a theraputic process called Auditing, you can remove the Engrams and heal all of our mental problems. The process of Auditing has been accused by Psychiatrists everywhere as a form of Brainwashing. Hubbard also taught that our earliest ancestors were put on this planet by an alien dictator named Xenu.

Charles Manson was the founder of the Manson Family. His followers lived in a abandoned movie set called Sphaun Ranch were Manson regularly had them abuse drugs and prostitute themselves to pay for their expenses. He eventually began teaching an apocalypse called Helter Skelter. According to Manson, their would be an ultimate racial war between black people and white people and when it was over the survivors would be ruled over by Manson and his cult. To incite the war Manson had his followers commit eleven murders, most famously of actress Sharon Tate. Charlie Manson was arrested and sentenced to death, however the death penalty in California was outlawed and Charlie got life imprisonment instead.

Shoko is the founder of the Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo, meaning Supreme Truth. He attracted many well educated but lonely followers who were convinced of his belief that the end of the world was coming. They built weapons of mass destruction for him and were responsible for a nerve gas attack on a tokyo subway which killed 12 and injured 1,000. He was captured and sentenced to death.

Bhagwan Rajneesh is the founder of the Rajneesh Movement. He moved to the United States in 1981 to Antelope, Oregon. It was there he founded a commune called Rajneeshpurim, where his followers lived. He preached meditation and the practice of free love, (particularly that he was the world's greatest lover). He eventually had his followers register to vote in local elections and had them poison local restaurants with Sal Monella to keep local citizens to sick to go vote. His followers won the elections and renamed Antelope City to City of Rajneesh. He was eventually discovered to be involoved in an assassination plot against county officials. He was exiled back to India and died of a heart attack in 1990. City of Rajneesh was renamed Antelope.

A former member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints. He was excommunicated from the group, and founded his own sect of no more then twenty people. Lundregen and his followers killed the Avery Family, people who were going to leave the group. The police eventually discovered the bodies and tracked down the cult. Lundregen was given the death penalty on Oct/24/2006

If you actually believe Jesus was a cult leader, would he not be number one not # 25. I mean this is a pretty sizeable cult, no?
I do not agree. Jesus was not the leader of a cult. He is the redeemer of mankind. He is the Son of God. he is God. Religions are man made.
