Alan Moore Report Abuse
Could it be anyone else? The man who wrote Watchmen, the only comic book ever to be considered literature, and other great stories like V for Vendetta, Swamp Thing, Marvelman/Miracleman, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?, For the Man Who Has Everything, and Batman: The Killing Joke. One of the only writers to truly apply literary sensibilities to comic books.

Stan the Man Lee! The guy who brought us dozens of spectacular characters, like Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, Daredevil, and many more. He also ushered in the era of more realistic and flawed comic book characters in an age where the watchword at DC was campy.

The man who wrote the original superman, without him I doubt people like Frank Miller, Stan Lee, Geoff Johns, and Alan Moore would be famous.

Neil Gaiman Report Abuse
The author of the comic book epic, Sandman, which utilized mythology like no other comic book has ever done. Although he worked less in mainstream comic books, he also brought an end to the era of Bruce Wayne as Batman in "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader" and wrote spectacular runs on books like Miracleman and Black Orchid.

Comments:
He isn't a comic book writer, he is a comic book artist.

The great modern writer who has revolutionized series like Green Lantern, Action Comics, Teen Titans, Flash, and Justice Society of America. He also had many great but lesser known runs on titles like Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E., Booster Gold, and even the Avengers. Few writers are as good as he is at reinterpreting continuity.

The man who actually managed to successfully kill one of the greatest comic book characters ever, Captain America, and make it good. He's also done amazing work on Daredevil, Catwoman, Gotham Central, and Immortal Iron Fist. Possibly the best writer ever at writing street-level characters.
