St. Pierre, commonly known as GSP, was known as the future of the sport for two years as he waited for a second shot at the welterweight title after losing to Matt Hughes by arm bar in 2004. In 2006, he defeated Hughes in a rematch, winning the title by TKO. GSP dropped the following fight, and the championship belt, in a shocking upset by Matt Serra. Since that time, GSP has proven to everyone that the future is now, as he reclaimed the belt and decimated all challengers to his throne as the best welterweight in the world. He will be meeting Thiago Alves in July at the highly-anticipated UFC 100.

Koscheck is a pedestrian 3-3 in his last six fights. However, two of his losses have come to St. Pierre and Alves. If Koscheck will remember that he is an elite wrestler and not an elite boxer, he should be able to avoid another finish similar to his shocking loss by TKO to UFC newcomer Paulo Thiago.

A member of American Top Team, Alves has shown more than potential in his recent run of victories. He bested top contenders Josh Koscheck, Matt Hughes and Karo Parisyan in 2008, earning him a shot at the title against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 100.
4.
One of several top fighters to train at American Kickboxing Academy, Fitch is a former Purdue wrestler who has developed a well-rounded MMA game. He has a stellar 18-3 record and earned a title shot against Georges St. Pierre (GSP) in 2008. Fitch showed that he had the heart, but not the skills, to fight the best, as GSP smashed him for 25 minutes before easily earning a unanimous decision.

Known by many as the greatest welterweight of all time, Matt Hughes is one of a few fighters that led the UFC out of the dark ages. Hughes has 50 professional fights under his belt, including wins over B.J. Penn, Georges St. Pierre, Hayato Sakurai and Carlos Newton (twice). His second victory against Frank Trigg is one of the most replayed highlights in UFC history, as Hughes overcame a groin strike and a near submission to slam Trigg and apply a fight-ending rear naked choke.
