Clear Lake, Iowa is where three icons of rock died in a plane crash. Report Abuse
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper died when their plane crashed not too long after take-off in 1959. This accident is often referred to as the "Day the Music Died." Don McLean wrote the song "American Pie" in remembrance of this event.
