Best Characters on Gilmore Girls

As the lead character of the show, Lorelai manages to be witty and charming and winsome, truly making you root for her to succeed. She makes plenty of mistakes and fumbles around in her love life, but these shortcomings make her all the more watchable.

Although he's a crusty curmudgeon on the outside, Luke is really quite sweet and sentimental, which he displays when he takes in his troubled nephew Jess, when he dates Lorelai, revealing that he's been pining for her for years, and when he discovers that he has a daughter and fights to become a part of her life. He's one of the more complicated characters on the show and brings a much-needed dose of reality to some of the zaniness.

Kirk is one of the quirkier characters on the show and seems to have a different job every week -- jewelry salesman, video store clerk, movie theater operator, cable guy, pest controller -- you name it, Kirk has tried it. His constant references to his mother, with whom he still lives, are funny and sad at the same time. You can always count on his character to bring something odd and wonderful to the table.

Sweet, flighty, excitable, energetic, clumsy Sookie is a true joy to watch. She's the perfect best friend for Lorelai and manages to be strong and opinionated without being overbearing or annoying.

Lane's bandmate and non-Korean love interest, Dave went to great lengths to try to win over her extremely devout mother, including playing guitar at her Bible studies and various religious functions and reading the entire Bible through in one night, which so impressed Mrs. Kim that she agreed to let Dave take Lane to prom. This willingness to do anything to date the girl he liked, as well as his dry sense of humor and sweet nature, made Dave Rygalski one of the best characters on the show.
