A magnificent fragment, the first chapter, set in Alaska may be the purest and best thing Handke ever wrote.

This has not been translated, GESTERN UNTERWEGS. it is the fourth and last of Handke' diary novels, all marvelous if read in conjunction with the works he was then writing. WEIGHT OF THE WORLD is the first, my favorite is HISTORY OF THE PENCIL which does not exist in English but in French, Spanish and Italian, and perhaps also other languages.
