Hakeem was not only the greatest in blocking the ball - he was also always in the top 10 in steals per game. A 7-fotter in the top 10 in steals? That's was and is still unheard of!!!

Scottie Pippen Report Abuse
83 points - added 15 years ago by carmen - 4 comments
Comments:
Scottie could've guarded anyone on the court. Ask Mark Jackson and Magic Johnson and they'll tell you. Loved to see him in action. With Scotty and Michael on the court it was more of a dog fight than a bull fight. They were tenacious and vicious in defense which usually resulted in a lightning fast break and a thunderous dunk.

Michael Jordan Report Abuse

9 time first defense in a row, had a 6th sense in stealing the ball. Crazy for putting Dennis higher than Michael or Scottie on this list

3 times steals champion, while leading the league in scoring, probably the most feared defensive player on this list
Added 9 years ago by guest, 0 points Vote + to improve this comment's ranking Vote - to decrease this comment's ranking
How Jordan isn't top 3 on this list if not num 1 is astonishing to me, 3rd all time in steals, 2nd all time in steals per game 87-88 defensive player of the year for a guard ( very rare), not to mention leading the league in scoring, most blocks all time for a guard, up there in most rebounds for a guard behind magic, multiple 200 steals 100 blocks seasons, AND 9 Time first team all defense no second teams for him. Up most respect for Scottie but he had one hell of a mentor on how to play defense

Walt Frazier Report Abuse
17 points - added 11 years ago by guest - 1 comment
Comments:
Frazier and Jerry West were two of the finest defensive guards ... in a addition to their offensive skills. A good measure of defensive prowess was who was assigned the opponent's top scorer ... here in Baltimore, the Bullets had Gus "Honeycomb" Johnson guard the Big O ... and Oscar got openly frustrated by Johnson's defensive work
