Giogitto Bizarrini designed this car. The name of the car P538 was derived from corvette's 5.3 liter V8. The prototype car was raced during 1966 Lemans 24 hours but it was sidelined due to ruptured water hose. A year later it was brought back to Lemans but it was not allowed to race. This prototype car is already obsolete and the only one left is displayed at the Blackhawk museum.

Twenty six year-old André Dubonnet,an accomplished aviator and race car driver commissioned the Nieuport Aviation Company to build a lightweight body suitable for both racing and touring. He built the Hispano Suiza 1924 Tulipwood Torpedo which was made out of strips of tulipwood of uneven thickness and length were fastened to the veneer with thousands of brass rivets with 46 gallon gas tank for long distance racing, 200 hp. @ 3050 rpm.
